We celebrate 10 Years! |
|
We are extremely happy to announce the 10 year anniversary of “Salsa Rueda Santa Cruz” (SRSC)!
Since the inception of SRSC in July 2001, hundreds of people have enjoyed the fun and community of dancing in the Rueda circle.
Since July 2001, SRSC has not only maintained “Salsa Rueda” consistently but also developed and enlarged the community to hundreds of people in the area.
We began with only 2 classes per week and counted up to 8 classes per week at peak times with over one hundred people attending our classes every week. We are also extremely happy to have supported the community with 95 performances all organized by students from our classes.
Many people learned to dance Salsa with SRSC. People have come and people left and sometimes we see people coming back after a long time. Other groups have split off from SRSC, teaching now in the surrounding area.
Friendships were made and many people have found their partners – even for life. SRSC has made connections state, nation and worldwide.
Come and celebrate this milestone with us!
Con abrazos,
Chris & Jessica! .

SRSC announces Transitions!

SRSC announces Transition
Dear Salsa and Salsa Rueda friends:
We announce some sudden and important changes at SRSC which will affect our wonderful community we have built up for over 8 years.
Over the eight years of Salsa Rueda Santa Cruz, teachers have come and gone, and some of our students have made the transition from being students to be being great teachers.
As you probably have already heard, one of those teachers, Kirsten, has decided to stop being a part of our small organization and start her own venture, after September 3. We wish Kirsten the best in her future classes.
When an organization exists for as long as we have, it is natural that it will change and evolve. Over the 8 years we ave changed the life of many people for the better and we will continue to do so. We hope for your support and patience as we focus on positive changes to come.
With the spirit of sustaining the Salsa Rueda Santa Cruz community, we are looking forward to bringing in new teachers, supporting them, and building them up, just as we have done the past.
With much love,
Chris & Jessica Santa Cruz, California

Salsa Rueda Santa Cruz supports Rueda de Casino Documentary Film |
|
SRSC forwards following message from Barbara Bernstein:
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SPONSOR AND PARTICIPATE IN A MOVIE ABOUT RUEDA DE CASINO AND SHARE YOUR PASSION WITH THE WORLD?
Rueda teachers Sarita Streng of Albuquerque and Eric Johnson of San Diego have shot footage in Cuba for a documentary about Rueda de Casino. The film will star a top Rueda group, explain the history of the dance, and celebrate the beauty of this dance form.
Below is a link for a video clip of a trailer for the movie (comment by SRSC: they do not smile – does not look like fun): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJVe0rrMFKY
They are also planning a short epilogue produced by Barbara Bernstein, which will document Rueda de Casino’s many manifestations in the world today.
They need your/our help. Here’s how:
1. SUPPORT A SPONSORSHIP DRIVE
We have all the footage for the film. We need funds to pay for the music rights, final editing, and legal fees. We are looking for dancers, dance teachers and friends of Rueda who are willing to ask others to become financial sponsors. In appreciation for supporting the film with a minimum donation of $10, each sponsor will receive an original “I Love Rueda de Casino” bumper sticker. Groups raising $300 or above will be mentioned in the credits with your group name and possibly a group photo.
We need $28,000 to finish the film. Imagine $10,000 coming from the grass-roots efforts of the world-wide Rueda community.
Would you consider taking a sponsorship packet? Each packet will contain 25 stickers and a return envelope. Donations are tax-deductible. For more information, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 505-899-7863.
2. Provide information, videos and photos that may be used in a short epilogue We are asking Rueda dancers around the world to tell us about the variety of places they have danced Rueda and anything they have done with the dance form that is particularly interesting.
Example: Some Casineros in NYC planned to protest a radio station that wasn’t playing enough timba by having Rueda dancers encircle the building and dance around it. (comment by SRSC: there must be nicer examples dancing Rueda than protesting)
For more information, contact Rueda Epilogue Producer Barbara Bernstein at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it (say you saw it from ‘Salsa Rueda Santa Cruz’ in Santa Cruz, CA on the Cruzy.org website).
THANK YOU/MIL GRACIAS for your consideration. Sarita Streng, Producer/Director; Eric J. Johnson, Producer/Director; Louisa Streng, Grass-Roots Support; Barbara Bernstein, Epilogue Producer
